Voices from Our Community in Cokato, Minnesota

Doris has lived in Dassel most of her life. This area has always felt like home. One of her favorite activities is when her nephew Reed comes to perform with his band.

“He’s got his own band, three members,” she said. “I enjoy them very much. I wouldn’t miss their program once a month.”

For Doris, music and familiar faces help maintain strong ties to family and community.

Margie first came to Cokato Charitable Trust for short-term rehabilitation after a foot injury.

“I got a little fracture in my foot picking a cucumber,” she said with a laugh. “I thought I was done and there was one more there. I pulled on it, lost my balance, and landed on my foot.”

She began therapy during the week and made steady progress, regaining strength and confidence along the way.

“I don’t have to use a lift anymore,” she said.

Over time, what started as a short-term stay became something more. Today, Margie is a long-term resident at Cokato Manor, where she continues to be part of the daily rhythm of the community.

Her story reflects something we see often. A place that begins with recovery can also become a place that feels comfortable, familiar, and supportive for the long term.
